Israel’s Future Blessing

14 [a](A)Return, Israel, to the Lord your God,
For you have stumbled [b]because of your (B)wrongdoing.
Take words with you and return to the Lord.
Say to Him, “(C)Take away all guilt
And [c]receive us graciously,
So that we may (D)present [d]the fruit of our lips.
Assyria will not save us,
We will (E)not ride on horses;
Nor will we say again, ‘(F)Our god’
To the (G)work of our hands;
For in (H)You the [e]orphan finds mercy.”

I will (I)heal their apostasy,
I will (J)love them freely,
Because My anger has (K)turned away from them.
I will be like the (L)dew to Israel;
He will blossom like the (M)lily,
And he will [f]take root like the cedars of (N)Lebanon.
His shoots will [g]sprout,
His [h]majesty will be like the (O)olive tree,
And his fragrance like the cedars of (P)Lebanon.
Those who (Q)live in his shadow
Will [i]again raise (R)grain,
And they will blossom like the vine.
His fame will be like the wine of Lebanon.

Ephraim, what more have I to do with (S)idols?
It is I who answer and look after [j]you.
I am like a luxuriant (T)juniper;
From (U)Me [k]comes your fruit.

(V)Whoever is wise, let him understand these things;
Whoever is discerning, let him know them.
For the (W)ways of the Lord are right,
And the (X)righteous will walk in them,
But (Y)wrongdoers will stumble in them.

Liberation from Captivity Promised

30 The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel says: ‘(A)Write all the words which I have spoken to you in a book. For behold, (B)days are coming,’ declares the Lord, ‘when I will (C)restore the fortunes of My people (D)Israel and Judah.’ The Lord says, ‘I will also (E)bring them back to the land that I gave to their forefathers, and they shall take possession of it.’”

10 And (A)do not fear, Jacob My servant,’ declares the Lord,
‘And do not be dismayed, Israel;
For behold, I am going to save you (B)from far away,
And your [a]descendants from the land of their captivity.
And Jacob will return and be (C)at peace, without anxiety,
And (D)no one will make him afraid.
11 For (E)I am with you,’ declares the Lord, ‘to save you;
For I will completely (F)destroy all the nations where I have scattered you,
Only I will (G)not destroy you completely.
But I will (H)discipline you fairly
And will by no means leave you unpunished.’

12 “For this is what the Lord says:
‘Your broken limb is irreparable,
And your (I)wound is incurable.
13 There is no one to plead your cause;
No healing for your sore,
(J)No recovery for you.
14 All your (K)lovers have forgotten you,
They do not seek you;
For I have (L)wounded you with the wound of an enemy,
With the (M)punishment of a (N)cruel one,
Because your (O)wrongdoing is great,
And your (P)sins are numerous.
15 Why do you cry out over your injury?
Your pain is incurable.
Because your wrongdoing is great
And your sins are numerous,
I have done these things to you.
16 Therefore all who (Q)devour you will be devoured;
And all your adversaries, every one of them, (R)will go into captivity;
And those who plunder you will become plunder,
And all who plunder you I will turn into plunder.
17 For I will [b]restore you to [c](S)health
And I will heal you of your wounds,’ declares the Lord,
‘Because they have called you an (T)outcast, saying:
“It is Zion; no one [d]cares for her.”’

Restoration of Jacob

18 “This is what the Lord says:
‘Behold, I will (U)restore the fortunes of the tents of Jacob
And (V)have compassion on his dwellings;
And the (W)city will be rebuilt on its ruins,
And the (X)palace will stand on its rightful place.
19 From them will come a (Y)song of thanksgiving
And the voices of those who [e](Z)celebrate;
And I will (AA)multiply them and they will not decrease;
I will (AB)honor them and they will not be insignificant.
20 [f]Their children also will be as before,
And [g]their congregation will be (AC)established before Me;
And I will punish all [h]their oppressors.
21 [i]Their (AD)leader shall be one of them,
And [j]their ruler will come out from [k]their midst;
And I will (AE)bring him near and he shall approach Me;
For [l]who would dare to risk his life to (AF)approach Me?’ declares the Lord.
22 ‘You shall be (AG)My people,
And I will be your God.’”

Dedicated Service

12 Therefore (A)I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to (B)present your bodies as a living and holy sacrifice, [a]acceptable to God, which is your [b]spiritual service of worship. And do not (C)be conformed to (D)this [c]world, but be transformed by the (E)renewing of your mind, so that you may [d](F)prove what the will of God is, that which is good and [e]acceptable and perfect.

For through (G)the grace given to me I say to everyone among you (H)not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to (I)each a measure of faith. For (J)just as we have many parts in one body and all [f]the body’s parts do not have the same function, so we, (K)who are many, are (L)one body in Christ, and individually parts of one another. However, since we have gifts that (M)differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to use them properly: if (N)prophecy, [g]in proportion to one’s faith; if [h](O)service, in the act of serving; or the one who (P)teaches, in the act of teaching; or the one who [i](Q)exhorts, in the work of [j]exhortation; the one who gives, with [k](R)generosity; (S)the one who [l]is in leadership, with diligence; the one who shows mercy, with (T)cheerfulness.

[m](U)Love must be free of hypocrisy. (V)Detest what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be (W)devoted to one another in brotherly love; [n]give preference to one another (X)in honor, 11 not lagging behind in diligence, (Y)fervent in spirit, (Z)serving the Lord; 12 (AA)rejoicing in hope, (AB)persevering in tribulation, (AC)devoted to prayer, 13 (AD)contributing to the needs of the [o]saints, [p](AE)practicing hospitality.

14 (AF)Bless those who persecute [q]you; bless and do not curse. 15 (AG)Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. 16 (AH)Be of the same mind toward one another; (AI)do not be [r]haughty in mind, but [s]associate with the lowly. (AJ)Do not be wise in your own estimation. 17 (AK)Never repay evil for evil to anyone. [t](AL)Respect what is right in the sight of all people. 18 If possible, (AM)so far as it depends on you, (AN)be at peace with all people. 19 (AO)Never take your own revenge, beloved, but [u]leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written: “(AP)Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. 20 (AQ)But if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

The Beatitudes

20 And He raised His eyes toward His disciples and began saying, (A)Blessed are [a]you who are poor, for (B)yours is the kingdom of God. 21 Blessed are [b]you who are hungry now, for you will be satisfied. Blessed are [c]you who weep now, for you will laugh. 22 (C)Blessed are you when the people hate you, and when they [d](D)exclude you, and insult you, and scorn your name as evil, on account of the Son of Man. 23 Rejoice on that day and (E)jump for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven. For their fathers used to [e]treat the prophets (F)the same way. 24 But woe to (G)you who are rich, for (H)you are receiving your comfort in full. 25 Woe to you who [f]are well-fed now, for you will be hungry. Woe to you who laugh now, for you will mourn and weep. 26 Woe to you when all the people speak well of you; for their fathers used to [g]treat the (I)false prophets the same way.

27 “But I say to you who hear, (J)love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, (K)pray for those who are abusive to you. 29 (L)Whoever hits you on the cheek, offer him the other also; and whoever takes away your [h]cloak, do not withhold your [i]tunic from him either. 30 Give to everyone who asks of you, and whoever takes away what is yours, do not demand it back. 31 [j](M)Treat people the same way you want them to [k]treat you. 32 (N)If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. 33 And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. 34 (O)And if you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners in order to receive back the same amount. 35 But (P)love your enemies and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be (Q)sons of (R)the Most High; for He Himself is kind to ungrateful and evil people. 36 [l]Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

37 (S)Do not [m]judge, and you will not be judged; and do not [n]condemn, and you will not be condemned; [o](T)pardon, and you will be pardoned. 38 Give, and it will be given to you. They will [p]pour (U)into your lap a (V)good measure—pressed down, shaken together, and running over. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return.”
